Have you ever wondered if what you eat is making your Hashimoto's worse — or if changing your diet could actually make a real difference?
If you've heard of the AIP diet but felt overwhelmed, confused about where to start, or worried it meant giving up food you love forever, this episode is for you. The modified AIP diet Hashimoto's patients are using today looks very different from what it was 15 years ago — and the research behind it is finally catching up.
In this episode, Esther sits down with Mickey Trescott, functional nutrition expert, Hashimoto's patient, and author of the brand new book The New Autoimmune Protocol. Mickey shares how AIP has evolved from a single sentence in functional medicine circles into a research-backed, two-phase protocol with human studies to support it — including two studies specific to Hashimoto's.
In this episode, you'll learn:
Why AIP is a tool and a process, not a permanent diet — and what it's actually designed to do
What modified AIP is, how it differs from core AIP, and why it may be more realistic for your real life
Why preparation matters more than the diet itself, and the two exercises Mickey uses to set people up for success before they change a single thing they eat
Hit play and find out if the modified AIP diet might be the missing piece in your Hashimoto's strategy.

Is freshly milled flour a loophole for women with Hashimoto's who don't want to give up gluten? It's a common question in the Hashimoto's community.
The research on Hashimoto's and fresh milled flour is mixed, the community stories are all over the map, and the answer is genuinely different from person to person. In this episode, Esther shares what she found when she dug into the science, what she learned from her own 12-year journey with gluten, and what real women in the freshly milled flour community are actually experiencing.
In this episode, you'll learn:
What fresh milled flour actually is and why it's so different from the processed flour sitting on your grocery store shelf
What the research says about gluten, molecular mimicry, and Hashimoto's — and why gut health has to come first
How to figure out whether fresh milled flour is something your body can handle, and the one tool that will help you know for sure

If you love learning from books that are grounded in history and backed by research, this episode is for you. The truth is, some of the oldest wisdom about food and health is still some of the most relevant — and The Biblio Diet by Dr. Josh Axe and Jordan Rubin makes a compelling case for why.
In this bonus episode, I'm sharing my review for The Biblio Diet by Dr. Josh Axe and Jordan Rubin.
In this episode, you'll learn:
Why this book works for readers at every level, from teenagers to holistic health educators
Which chapters stood out (and the one chapter that comes with an important caveat if you have Hashimoto's)
Why Chapter 14 alone might be worth the price of the book
Hit play and find out if The Biblio Diet deserves a spot on your reading list.

Have you ever been approached about a health product through a friend, a Facebook post, or someone you follow online — and wondered if it was actually worth it?
Network marketing and MLMs are one of the most divisive topics in the health world. Mention them in a Facebook group and you'll get strong opinions on both sides. But when you have Hashimoto's and you're trying to figure out what products might actually support your root causes, you need a clear-headed look at what these companies do well and where they fall short.
In episode 195, Esther shares her honest, personal take on network marketing and Hashimoto's. This is not a cheerleader episode and it's not a takedown. It's a balanced, practical look at what to consider before you buy or join.
In this episode, you'll learn:
Why network marketing companies are often ahead of mainstream education when it comes to supplements and root cause support
The real financial picture — including why the dream of full-time income rarely matches reality and what tax benefits might actually apply
How to evaluate a company and its products so you don't get burned by bad information, formula changes, or a compensation plan that doesn't pay out
Hit play and get the balanced view you've been looking for.

Are you tired of knowing stress is a problem but having no real system for dealing with it?
Most women with Hashimoto's have heard that stress makes their symptoms worse. But hearing it and having a practical tool for it are two very different things. In this episode, Melanie Gray shares the Stop It Method — a six-step framework designed to help you move out of survival mode and into a place of balance, boundaries, and real self-care.
In this episode, you'll learn:
Why so many women stay stuck in survival mode even after the stressful season has passed — and what's actually happening in the nervous system
Each letter of the Stop It Method and what it means for your daily life with Hashimoto's
Why stress management works best as prevention, not just crisis response — and how to start catching fatigue before it becomes a crash

Are you doing all the things (the supplements, the protocols, the late-night Pinterest research) and still not moving forward with Hashimoto's?
You might not have an information problem. You might have an overwhelm problem.
Hashimoto's overwhelm is one of the most unrecognized barriers to getting better. And the hardest part is that the search for answers can actually make things worse! Every new protocol adds another decision. Every new supplement adds another layer of stress. And stress is one of the biggest root cause triggers for Hashimoto's. The plan itself can become part of the problem.
In episode 193, Esther breaks down why more information is not the answer and what actually is.
In this episode, you'll learn:
Why accumulating strategies is not the same as making progress with Hashimoto's
How the information environment is designed to keep you spinning — and what to do instead
Why structure reduces decision fatigue, lowers your stress load, and creates real forward momentum
Hit play and find out where to actually start.

Are you spending money on supplements every month and still wondering if any of it is actually working?
More is not always better — and not all supplements are created equal. In episode 192, Esther digs into a recent Consumer Reports guide on popular supplements, shares where she agrees, where she respectfully disagrees, and what it all means for your Hashimoto's supplement routine.
In this episode, you'll learn:
Why supplement quality matters more than quantity — and what rancid fish oil and lead in protein powder have to do with it
How to think about your supplement needs like Goldilocks — not too much, not too little, and personal to you
Which nutrients deserve your attention and why selenium may be one of the most important ones you aren't thinking about

Esther Yunkin, RN

Esther worked in emergency departments around the United States for 17 years until she grew fed-up with the system that only puts bandaids on the symptoms of problems instead of helping people discover how to actually find health. She went back to school and is now a holistic health educator helping women discover their next step on the journey to whole health through this podcast, private health coaching, and her program Abundant Energy for the Weary Mom.

Your whole health is made up of body, mind, spirit, diet, and environment. Changes can be made in any of these areas to help you create better health. Each episode of Health with Hashimoto's will provide simple and true tips so you can take action immediately.
