Health with Hashimoto’s - Root Cause Education for Autoimmune Thyroid Disease

Thyroid or immune. Finally sorted.

You've done the research. You still don't have a plan. The Health with Hashimoto's podcast teaches you to sort everything you know about Hashimoto's into one of two buckets: thyroid function or immune function. That's the shift. Not more information. A way to use what you've already got.

Hosted by Esther Yunkin, RN, this podcast covers what Hashimoto's actually is, why it happens, and how to work with your doctor (not against them) while you build a plan that fits a real life.

  • What is Hashimoto's, and why does it happen?
  • How to sort what you already know into thyroid or immune, so it finally makes sense
  • Practical lifestyle strategies, without the overwhelm
  • How to be the CEO of your own health
  • Grounded in science. No woo, no shame, no urgency

Have you ever wondered why your Hashimoto’s symptoms stick around even when you’re doing “all the right things”? There’s a reason so many people still feel tired, inflamed, and overwhelmed — and it starts inside the cell.

This episode breaks down the idea of good energy and why it matters for anyone living with Hashimoto’s or an autoimmune condition. I share insights from the book Good Energy by Dr. Casey Means and explain how low cellular energy sets the stage for inflammation, immune confusion, and that constant feeling of running on empty. When you understand what’s happening at the smallest level of the body, the big picture starts to make a lot more sense.

In this episode you’ll learn:
Why poor cellular energy plays such a big role in Hashimoto’s
How inflammation and autoimmune symptoms connect to mitochondrial function
Simple ways to begin supporting your cells so you can feel like yourself again
Press play and learn how Good Energy Matters for Hashimoto’s and Autoimmune Health.

You're eating clean, taking your supplements, and trying to do everything right. So why do you still feel bloated, exhausted, and stuck?
Burnout might be the missing piece. In this episode, Esther sits down with Functional Gut Health Consultant and Family Nurse Practitioner Lola MacLean to talk about what chronic stress is actually doing to your hormones, your gut, and your thyroid, and why it creates a cycle that is so hard to break out of on your own.
If you have Hashimoto's and feel like your efforts aren't adding up to results, this conversation will help you understand what's happening beneath the surface.
In this episode, you'll learn:
Why stress keeps your body in fight-or-flight and why digestion is not designed to work well in that state
How low stomach acid connects to burnout and why it keeps your thyroid from getting the nutrients it needs
What "eating hygiene" is and why slowing down at meals is one of the most overlooked gut health tools
Simple daily habits, including a gentle walk after meals, that support motility, blood sugar, and gut comfort
Why long-term gut healing is less about restriction and more about giving your nervous system room to reset
You don't have to overhaul everything at once. Press play to hear what small, sustainable steps can actually move the needle when stress has been running the show.

What do women with Hashimoto’s want going into a new year? After working with so many of you, the top wish is simple and deeply felt: you want to feel like yourself again.
In this episode, I walk through what that really means — physically, mentally, and emotionally — and why it matters so much when you’re living with autoimmune thyroid disease. You’ll hear me break down the most common desires I see in my practice: more steady energy, clearer thinking, fewer digestive issues, better sleep, a calmer mood, and the confidence that you’re moving in the right direction.
I also share a few practical tools that can make a real difference as you build a plan for 2025, including:
How a far-infrared sauna can support your body
Why testing your vitamin D matters when you’re dealing with an autoimmune condition

Are you looking for ways to support your Hashimoto's health without adding more to your already full plate?
There is one tool that is completely free, takes less than a minute, and has real science behind it. It is gratitude. Not the once-a-year Thanksgiving kind. The daily, eyes-open, noticing-what-is-already-working kind.
In this episode, you will discover:
Why a regular gratitude practice is one of the most overlooked free Hashimoto's health support tools available to you
What your body is doing right now that is worth paying attention to
How shifting your perspective on small, everyday moments can lower your cortisol, improve your sleep, and support your immune system
The research is clear. A Harvard study found that just 15 minutes of focused gratitude three times a week produced a measurable increase in happiness for six months. A 2023 meta-analysis found gratitude interventions work as well as some therapy techniques for reducing worry and improving mood. And for women with Hashimoto's, lowering cortisol is not a small thing. It directly impacts your immune system and your autoimmune activity.
Hit play and find out how something as simple as noticing your next heartbeat could be exactly what your body needs.

Our insurance system is a mess — I felt it, so I shopped alternatives and landed on Knew Health for my family of six. They prioritize prevention (think thermography, chiropractic, gym, and a $200 self-care allowance), offer super-affordable labs through Evexia, and have a clear IUA system that replaces confusing deductibles.
If you’re tired of paying for coverage you don’t use, this episode walks through how Knew Health works, how pre-existing conditions and maternity care are handled, and why their customer service actually feels human. Use code HWH20 for 20% off your first year if you want to try it out — check the cost calculator on knewhealth.com or call them with questions.

Are you relying on coffee to fight off morning fatigue—but still crashing by afternoon? There’s a reason. In this episode of Health with Hashimoto’s, I talk with Ben Bressington, founder of Bare Remedy, about the real connection between coffee and cortisol and how that daily cup might be stressing your thyroid instead of helping it.
Ben shares how high caffeine intake tricks your body into thinking it has energy while secretly spiking cortisol and draining your adrenals. You’ll also hear how functional mushrooms and adaptogens can support your body to create steady, natural energy instead of faking it with stimulants.
In this conversation, you’ll learn:
Why caffeine can make Hashimoto’s fatigue and anxiety worse
How mushrooms help balance cortisol and support energy naturally
What to look for in quality mushroom and adaptogen supplements

Esther Yunkin, RN

Esther spent 17 years as an emergency room nurse before she got fed up with a system that hands out prescriptions for symptoms and never explains why the symptoms are happening in the first place. She went back to school, became a holistic health educator, and was later diagnosed with Hashimoto's herself.

That diagnosis is where this podcast started. Esther teaches women with Hashimoto's how to sort everything they already know into two buckets, thyroid function or immune function, so they can stop collecting information and finally know where to start. Each episode hands you one piece of that framework, explained simply enough to use right away.

Esther works with women through this podcast, her mini-course Hashimoto's Decoded, and one-on-one Discernment Coaching.
